West Mountain: The Future of Real Estate at Sugarloaf

In February of 2020, Sugarloaf and Boyne Resorts unveiled Sugarloaf 2030 – a vision for the next 10 years of growth and development at the resort. The centerpiece of that vision was the West Mountain development – a transformative real estate and alpine development that will change the face of real estate in Carrabassett Valley.

A Mountainside Real Estate exclusive development, the West Mountain project will span more than 450 acres. It will include an estimated 196 new housing units, consisting of 40 duplex units, 52 single family home lots and 4 condo building, each with 26 units.

Development Map

The development will also feature 140 acres of new beginner and intermediate alpine trails complete with the latest in low energy snowmaking technology. This new terrain will make West Mountain the newest hub for family-friendly skiing and riding and will provide the ultimate ski-in, ski-out convenience for new West Mountain homes.

Lift developments will include a new high-speed, high capacity chairlift, beginning at West Mountain Road and terminating at Bullwinkle’s. The new lift will improve access for West Mountain homeowners with a 7 days a week operating schedule and vastly reduced ride time. The existing lift on West Mountain will be shortened to eliminate redundancy and congestion, while maintaining ease of access for existing homeowners. In addition, new parking areas will provide quick and easy access to Sugarloaf’s newest lift and trails, and a new parking lot access trail will create ski-in/ ski-out parking convenience for all skiers and riders.

The residential development will inject new inventory into our market, which is currently seeing record-high demand and will build a new generation of Sugarloaf families that will carry the resort and community into the future. With home styles from condos to single family lots, the development will feature options to suit a variety of different needs and budgets.

Some of the largest slope-side lots anywhere at Sugarloaf will offer unparalleled privacy combined with easy ski-in/ ski-out access. In the summer months these homes will also provide easy access to the Sugarloaf Golf Club, including a potential new 9-hole course, now in planning stages. Buyers can build to suit their individual needs and preferences, making these easily the most desirable lots in Carrabassett Valley.

Townhouses will offer a dash of luxury. Duplexes will ensure that every unit is an end unit, with high-end finishes and ski-in/ ski-out convenience, plus proximity to the Sugarloaf Golf Club. The condominium development will offer upscale living with ultimate slope side convenience. Plans’ call for option to meet a variety of needs, with units ranging from two to four bedrooms, plus ample gear storage and other amenities.

Mountainside Real Estate will be the exclusive broker for this new development and will be working hand in hand with builders and developers as the project moves forward. Sugarloaf’s slope-side living experts will be the ones to ensure that the homes being developed match the needs and desires of Sugarloaf real estate buyers.

I grew up skiing at Sugarloaf with my dad, often making the drive up from my childhood home in southern Maine. Now I'm lucky enough to live in Kingfield, just a stone's throw from the mountain.
I'm enthusiastic about skiing, ice skating and love to snowshoe in the winter - but balance these outdoor activities with cooking in a warm kitchen or sitting by a fire with my husband and pets and I'm as happy as can be.
My most loved warm weather activities include paddle boarding with my giant dog, hiking and gardening - but honestly half the time you'll just find me laying under a tree, in the grass, reading a book.
